TEAM for West Virginia Children envisions West Virginia as a state where all children can grow and thrive in safe, stable, nurturing relationship, free from abuse and neglect, so they will achieve their maximum potential as adults.

Mission Statement:

TEAM for West Virginia Children is a non-profit organization whose mission is to work with communities and families to promote and advance the well-being of children, making their needs and healthy development a priority.

We operate and partner with an integrated network of programs to:
Advocate for children.
Champion family-friendly communities.
Educate the public.
Strengthen families.

Belief Statements:

Safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments are essential to prevent child maltreatment and to assure children reach their full potential.

Child maltreatment in all its forms, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual exploitation, and emotional maltreatment, can be prevented.

Every child has the right to have a safe, nurturing, permanent and stable home.

Every parent should have access to parenting education and support in order to strengthen and empower children and families.

Child maltreatment is caused by a complex interaction of individual, family, community, and cultural and societal factors and occurs in all segments of society.

Conflict and disagreement can be resolved in non-violent ways – more education is needed on non-violent conflict resolution.

Discipline can be achieved in positive, non-violent ways – more education is needed on non-violent forms of discipline.

A well-functioning family unit is the best environment for the growth and development of children.

Effective organizations reflect and are sensitive to the multi-cultural nature of our society.

Promoting child well-being, thereby preventing child maltreatment, is a shared family, professional and community responsibility.

Volunteers are a crucial element in the work of promoting child well-being and strengthening families and communities.

Positive public policy advocacy will have an ultimate effect on the future of the TEAM and the children and families we serve.
