2024 Geoff Sheils

TEAM for West Virginia Children presented Geoffrey Sheils with its annual Service to Children Award on April 30th, 2024, at the Guyan Country Club in Huntington. The celebration featured a Monopoly Board Game theme and included a variety of music, food, and fun! The Presenting Sponsor was Hoops Family Children’s Hospital at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.

“This year, TEAM is honoring Geoff as he has given of his time and talents over the past 40 years to support local child-serving organizations, volunteering in various capacities—as a Board member and volunteer for many agencies,” said Laurie McKeown, executive director of TEAM for West Virginia Children.

Geoff is a long-time local banker, having worked his way up from a part-time teller to his current role as Regional President for Summit Community Bank. His volunteer history is equally impressive including stints as a board member, volunteer, and supporter of the following organizations (just to name a few): Boys and Girls Club, United Way of the River Cities, Little League 3, YMCA, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Optimist Club, and Huntington Museum of Art.

When Geoff was invited to receive the 2024 Service to Children award, he commented, “I was shocked and don’t feel worthy of such distinction. Having said that, I will graciously accept and hopefully we can use the evening to raise awareness and resources for all the good that TEAM does.”

TEAM for West Virginia Children shares Geoff’s commitment to providing families with the tools needed to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments for children. Through its network of programs—including Healthy Families Mountain State, Western Regional CASA, Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia, Partners in Community Outreach, and the West Virginia Infant/Toddler Mental Health Association—TEAM is working to advocate for children, educate the public, and build family-friendly communities where all children can thrive.
